Complete 2009 Predictions List

Best Original Score

Up
(Michael Giacchino)
Avatar  (James Horner) Sherlock Holmes (Hans Zimmer) Fantastic Mr. Fox (Alexandre Desplat) The Hurt Locker (Marco Beltrami and Buck Sanders)

Analysis:  Horner (Avatar) receives his 8th nomination in the Score category and previously won for Titanic, another James Cameron blockbuster.  Could history repeat itself?  Up is an equal threat to win, as Michael Giacchino had two fantastic scores this year, the other for Star Trek.

Will Win - Michael Giacchino, Up

Should Win - Michael Giacchino, Up

Could Win - James Horner, Avatar

Best Original Song

"The Weary Kind" (T-Bone Burnett and Ryan Bingham) "Down In New Orleans" (Randy Newman) "Almost There" (Randy Newman) "Take it All" (Maury Weston) "Loin de Paname" (Reinhardt Wagner and Frank Thomas)

Crazy Heart

The Princess and the Frog

The Princess and the Frog

Nine

Paris 36

Analysis:  If anything beats Crazy Heart's "The Weary Kind" I will officially give up on the Oscar music branch.  This seems to be, along with Foreign, the most flawed category in recent Oscar history.

Will Win - T-Bone Burnett and Ryan Bingham, "The Weary Kind" from Crazy Heart

Should Win - T-Bone Burnett and Ryan Bingham, "The Weary Kind" from Crazy Heart

Could Win - Randy Newman, "Down in New Orleans" from The Princess and the Frog
